July 2013: Cleaning the House, July 9, 2013

I've been doing this for nine days.  Tonight I absolutely did not want to work on cleaning any one area of my house.  I really just wanted to go to bed.  But, I made myself clean.  In a stroke of genius (:sarcasm:) I forgot to set my timer, so while I'm nearly positive I worked more than 30 minutes, I really don't know how long I worked on this project.  Hard call, but there's a certain level of comfort I feel in saying it was longer than 30 minutes.  So what did I end up doing?  The linen closet.  It's something no one else should ever see, but I still wanted it looking nice.  As an aside, I have a funny feeling that at some point someone used this as the coat closet (there is no coat closet in this house), because there's some boards at the top of the closet that are holding nothing, but have notches where a clothes rod could slip in.  Nonetheless, I need a linen closet, so here it is.  It even has shelves in it!  Happy thought, indeed!  They're placed to Lady Catherine's specifications, I presume.
These are the top two shelves of my closet.  There are Kleenex boxes just tossed up there as I bought them.  The hand towels and some of the washrags are on top of the basket that has lotions in it.  As a theme with this closet is that things just get thrown in there as accumulated.  Not a good plan, by any stretch of the imagination.  And, so let the organization of the linen closet begin:
So much better!  Soap and shampoo/conditioner are in the basket on the top shelf.  Lotions and face soap are in the other two baskets.  The hand towels are on the top shelf.  (I don't quite know how I got so many.  Wait. Yes, I do.  Some of the towels were from my bathroom set in college (yep), some are from my bathroom scheme in my apartment, some are to match my current bathroom colors, and my aunt gave me some with a hand-crocheted decoration as a house-warming present.  I seem to have a towel addiction, because not all of my towels are even in this closet!)

The middle two shelves were in no better shape.  (The bottom shelf didn't need help.  It has two storage boxes (travel stuff and candles), and toilet paper still in the package.)
Towels are jammed in around miscellaneous bottles, cleaning supplies, and hair things.  And the hair dryers from putting plastic on my windows are just jammed in there (compliments of the cleaning off of the cedar chest earlier this month).  Not exactly a pretty sight for anyone.

Now I have my towels and bathmats (I have kitties who love my bathmats, so they get covered with cat hair.  I change out towels and bathmats at the same time) next to my washcloths. Underneath them are the guest towels, a fall table topper from my grandma, and excess hair stuff that I rarely use (curling irons, hair dryers, rubber bands that don't stay in my hair that well or various styles I don't wear), as well as some cleaning supplies.  As I know I have cleaning supplies elsewhere in my house, the cleaning supplies just might have to move.  We'll see what I can figure out when the time comes.

And there's my linen closet in my little house, all organized.  I hope to keep it that way, because I don't want to have to do this again!
