July 2013: Cleaning the House, July 12, 2013

So, I decided to start on my utility room.  It's where my utilities are (duh).  In one large room (large for this house!) is my furnace, water heater, chimney, laundry tub, washer, dryer, as well as non-functioning water softener system.  (And a dehumidifier.)  As well as three litter boxes for the cats.  Plus my tools, suitcases, paint, and so forth.  There's a lot crowded in there.  And it's a mess.

See?!  My wet dry vacuum was in the house for some reason--it belongs in the garage.  My pressure washer was brought inside for the winter (so it wouldn't freeze in my unheated detached garage), and was still in there.  My saw horses--one was folded up in the other corner--belong in the garage but no doubt came in last winter as I worked on something...  Oh, probably putting shelves in the closet, per Lady Catherine's specifications.   So all of that got carried out to the garage, so it looks much better.
Oh, look.  All of that is gone and I can move my drying rack over there, where it's less in the way!  I like this idea very much!

I really should pay attention to what I pictures I take before and after, because here's the only before picture I took of the far corner of the utility room...pretty messy with a lot of things that just don't belong.
Whereas the after picture I took to show the far corner shows off the main part of the laundry room, too.
There's not a whole lot of change, except there's a lot less stuff on the floor between here and there.  And that's a good thing.

And I didn't take a single picture of the area around the water softener system, dehumidifier, and dryer.  But here's an after picture!  Just imagine the same picture, but with a lot of stuff on the floor--like temporary flower pots (from buying plants at greenhouses) cluttering up the space.  And now it's empty!

It's still not clean.  I still need to figure out of I can attach my dehumidifier to that hose there and drain it into the floor drain on the other side of the washer--which is on the other side of the dryer pictured here.  I know a house can be used, but I don't know if that particular hose is long enough, or if it will stay properly attached to the drain.

So, there's another day of cleaning.  Things are looking better.  Not good, but better.
