This isn't much, but it's what I did today. I redid the cats' scratching post. It may not technically be cleaning, but it looks better sitting in the middle of my living room now. Only two of the cats really use it, and they've both checked it out since I've finished. In fact, the older one actually scratched all the way up. I have a feeling he was looking for the bare spots...
Clearly the cats like using it. The rope is coming off, showing off the attractive cardboard underneath. Plus, well, it's covered in cat hair because I have cats. And they like to use the scratching post. And the sisal rope likes cat hair, especially when it's all shredded.
First I had to remove the rope, and I got help doing that!
Zeus thought it was great fun to attack the rope as I took it off. It was a big game to him, and I let him play, despite the fact that if we put together a yearbook, he'd get the title "Cat Most Likely to Draw Blood." (In fact, the other night, he did draw blood.) It did make using the utility knife to cut the rope an extra challenge. My dad was very particular about making sure we knew that you ALWAYS cut away from yourself, and never towards anyone else, either.
I got out my staple gun--seen under the staples in the first phone--and some leftover rope from when my friend and I made a cat tree with a scratching sisal rope feature. I already had in the back of my mind that I would have to make a run to Menard's for more rope, since I only had a package of 50' of rope. As it turned out, it takes somewhere around 44' of rope, so the whole project was a success!
My living room isn't clean, but at least my scratching post isn't an eyesore anymore!
