This morning after I woke up, I went to turn on my living room light, which is by my front door. It was a momentary confusion before the joy. I'm not used to not tripping over things. I'm not used to having no random things on the floor there. It was just...clean. It looked brighter and cheerier, and it made me happy. This is the whole point of this project. Specifically, this month is about getting my house a little cleaner than it was. The overall theme of this blog is seeing progress being made. It's a slow-moving process, but there is progress being made. In months where I learn new skills, I look forward to seeing my progress. And, incidentally, for other months, there will be things happening behind the scenes for future months. For example, the last few weeks, I've spent time working on preparation for something I have slated for next MAY (and have a blister for it!). May, as you may note (pun intended), is a long ways away. I really need to start laying the ground for my November project, which needs some prep work before November 1. November is the only month I have determinedly set (since it's NaNoWriMo).
Anyway...getting back to July 2013, and cleaning my house. I picked two different areas of the floor that are right next to me. An area in front of and beside my couch (loveseat), and the floor under the eating table (as opposed to the craft table. I can't really call it the dining room table, since I don't have a dining room, and calling it my living room table would not quite define its purpose and would be just as weird as calling it the eating table).
So here's in front of the couch. There are a lot of papers left over form my previous job that I took a while to let go of. The rope from the scratching post is there. I'm going to use it in the garage to tie up bundles of cardboard.
The papers from work were sorted through and recycled (see the pink file folder and the blue three-ring binder? Both of those are now empty/clean slates for their next lives, which hasn't been decided upon yet). The rope is on top of my purse for when I head out to the garage tomorrow. And the cat food cans are now stacked neatly in the cupboard where they belong. YAY!
Doesn't that look better? Except the sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming that needs to be done. Such is life, I guess.
So, under the table. I realized halfway into this that maybe tonight was not the night for this. My legs are sore from doing some landscaping work at some friends' house. Ouch. The main problem is that things fall under the table, or are assisted under the the table by my fur-producing machines.
Also, hey, the vacuum cleaner that doesn't belong there, but still isn't put away because I need to vacuum the rug. But I can't vacuum the rug because I need to do more cleaning! But at least under the table is now clean!
The box stays there because the cats enjoy it. As they overrule me in the house, it stays. (It's a good thing this is not a democracy, or we'd be eating tuna constantly and all the furniture would be more clawed up than it is.)
And now...I really need to unstack and re-stack the dishwasher. I really want to wait until morning, but we're in the midst of a heat wave, so it's best to use heat-producing machines at night, so the dishwasher has to be re-run tonight. :sigh:
